NYCLU Statement on the Passing of Former Board President Tom Frey

Former New York Civil Liberties Union Board President and ex-Monroe County Executive Tom Frey passed away today at the age of 80.

The following statement is attributable to NYCLU Executive Director, Donna Lieberman.

“The NYCLU family is deeply saddened at the passing of our friend, colleague and former Board President Tom Frey. Tom was unswerving in his commitment to the values and the work of defending the fundamental rights that are at the core of our democracy. His wisdom, humility and grace made him an effective leader of both the state NYCLU and our Genesee Valley Chapter. Tom led by example and was always able to find common ground to move our work forward. Tom was especially instrumental in leading the NYCLU to become the effective statewide force for human rights it is today.”

As bold as the spirit of New York, we are the NYCLU.
