Statement on the Suspension of Enrollment to Global Entry

greenlight revised

Yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security announced the suspension of enrollment to Global Entry and other Trusted Traveler Programs as a response to the passage and implementation of New York’s Green Light Law, which makes driver’s licenses available to all New Yorkers regardless of immigration status.

In response to this policy change, the New York Civil Liberties Union released the following statement from Executive Director, Donna Lieberman:

“This is a political stunt meant to single out New Yorkers for passing common-sense legislation and standing with the immigrant members of our community. Time and time again the Trump administration has shown how far it’s willing to go in its war on immigrants and to intimidate states for doing what is right.

The Green Light Law makes New York’s roads safer, allows immigrants to take care of their families, and reduces the risk that a routine traffic stop can result in detention or even deportation.  Our communities are stronger, safer, and better for it.”
