Letter to Board of Regents

The New York Civil Liberties Union wrote a letter urging the New York State Board of Regents to eliminate the Regents exams for the current school year.

Read the letter

In the midst of the current public health crisis, New York schools have shifted to remote instruction, students have limited access to resources to prepare for exams, and administering the Regents exams safely may be impossible. Instead of relying on the high stakes Regents exams, the Board of Regents should allow students’ progress to be determined by those who know them best: their teachers, counselors, and other educators.

As bold as the spirit of New York, we are the NYCLU.
