ACLU And NYCLU Join Islamic Civil Liberties Group To Denounce Airport Profiling

The New York Civil Liberties Union and the American Civil Liberties Union will join the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations today to call for an end to the profiling of people of perceived Middle Eastern and South Asian ancestry at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The organizations have received complaints from individuals who say they have been detained for hours at JFK airport for no reason other than their perceived ethnicity. These allegations raise major questions and concerns about constitutional rights, especially in light of recently proposed measures to legitimize racial profiling at airports.

Dennis Parker, Director of the ACLU’s Racial Justice Program, and Udi Ofer, Legislative Counsel for the NYCLU, will join representatives of CAIR and an individual who was allegedly detained at JFK. Ofer and Parker will address the Constitutional questions raised by the allegations of profiling.
