Another Court Blocks Trump’s Muslim Ban

In a sweeping decision released today, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals refused to allow the Trump administration’s Muslim ban to go into effect. Federal district courts in Hawaii and Maryland had already ruled that the executive order was veiled discrimination against Muslims.

“[F]rom the highest elected office in the nation has come an Executive Order steeped in animus and directed at a single religious group,” the majority wrote in its decision.

The following statement is attributable to New York Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Donna Lieberman:

“Yet another court has rejected the Trump regime’s attempt to pretend that this second executive order was anything but an attempt to fulfill the president’s campaign promise to ban Muslims. Trump must learn that religious freedom and equality are two of the hallmarks of our country and our laws. New Yorkers will fight any attempt to undercut those values.”
