Project Liberty, the New York Civil Liberties Union’s television show, is back on local stations this week with episode three highlighting the NYCLU’s annual benefit concert, Broadway Stands Up for Freedom.

“Project Liberty is an exciting new way to keep New Yorkers informed of the civil liberties issues affecting their lives,” said NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman. “The show brings the topics and events of today into people’s living rooms.”

The half-hour show airs tonight and Thursday at 8p.m. in Manhattan on MNN; on Bronx channel BronxNet on Thursday, July 5 at 2:30 p.m, and Thursday, July 19 at 3 p.m.; on Brooklyn channel BCAT on Wednesday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, July 19 at 5 p.m; and in Queens Saturday July 14th at 5:30 p.m. on Time Warner Ch. 35, RCN Ch. 83, Verizon FiOS Ch. 35 and Wednesday July 18th at 11 a.m. on Time Warner Ch. 35, RCN Ch. 83, Verizon FiOS Ch. 35.

The new episode is packed with performances from some of Broadway’s most celebrated stars, including Nikki M. James, Gavin Creel, John Tartaglia and Bryce Ryness, and promotes the upcoming 10th anniversary performance of the NYCLU’s Broadway concert on Monday, July 23. Returning performers Celia Keenan-Bolger, Seth Rudetsky, Liana Stampur and Clinton Curtis, set the stage for another year of great music and fun.

“This is not a snoozy that you pray will end before ‘Hoarders,’” said Rudetsky, the show’s musical director and host. “It’s great Broadway people being hilarious and/or singing great music. You will say brava!”

Throughout the episode, viewers are able to re-live some of the memorable performances from past years and celebrate the inherent connection between the arts and civil liberties. Proceeds from the annual charity concert benefit the NYCLU’s youth programs, including its work with LGBT teenagers; its Teen Activist Project, which engages New York City teens as organizers and peer educators on civil rights and civil liberties issues; and its work to stop overly aggressive policing and zero-tolerance discipline in the city’s public schools.
