On Tuesday, June 8, the Lower Hudson Valley Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union will honor local champions of immigrants’ rights at its Annual Dinner at the Riverview in Hastings-on-Hudson.
The dinner will feature a keynote address by Victor Navasky, a National Book Award-winning author and publisher emeritus of The Nation magazine. Navasky, a former editor and publisher of The Nation, is the George Delacorte Professor of Magazine Journalism at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he chairs the Columbia Journalism Review. He also has served as an editor of The New York Times Magazine. His books include Kennedy Justice, Naming Names (winner of a National Book Award) and A Matter of Opinion (winner of a George Polk Book Award).
Hamilton Fish, a senior advisor and president emeritus of The Nation Institute, will introduce Navasky, who will talk about “Lessons of McCarthy for Today.”
The Myron Isaacs Community Service Award will be presented to the following honorees, for their passionate commitment to defending the rights of immigrants:
The honorees will be introduced by attorney Robin Bikkal, who is chair of the Westchester County Hispanic Advisory Board, and president of El Centro Hispano, White Plains.
