State Prison Indefinitely Detaining Paroled, Terminally Ill Man
Civil Liberties Union
The New York Civil Liberties Union will bring its members and supporters together this Monday for a rally to push for real, comprehensive immigration reform and to stop anti-immigrant legislation from becoming law.
The NYCLU is co-sponsoring the National Day of Action for Immigrants Rights with more than eighty other New York City community, religious, labor, and immigrants’ rights groups. On Monday these groups will come together to condemn anti-immigrant House resolution 4437 and to demand comprehensive immigration reform that includes a fair path to citizenship, family reunification measures, worker protections, and full civil rights for all immigrants.
The NYCLU will deploy police monitors for the event, as it did for the rallies during the Republican National Convention in New York City in August 2004. This Monday newly-trained NYCLU monitors in blue caps will observe NYPD practices at the rally and feeder marches.
Members of the NYCLU’s rally contingent will meet at the NYCLU office at 2:30 p.m. to make signs and will leave the office for the rally at 3 p.m. sharp. The NYCLU still needs volunteers to help distribute Know Your Rights flyers. If you can volunteer or you just want to participate in the rally, please contact Rodolfo Estrada, Field Organizer, at restrada@nyclu.org or 212.344.3005 x268.
