NYCLU Amicus Curiae Brief: Karlin v. Stanford

The New York Civil Liberties Union submitted an amicus brief in Karlin v. Stanford, a case related to the social banishment of people convicted of sex offenses. In the brief, the NYCLU argues that people on parole have the same constitutional First Amendment rights as those who are not under the supervision of the criminal legal system. We also discuss the larger problems of the parole system, including how conditions imposed on parolees can undermine the goal of rehabilitation, and the potential for arbitrary decision-making by parole boards.

As bold as the spirit of New York, we are the NYCLU.
