Robin Willner is Director of the NYS P-TECH Leadership Council, representing the Executive Chamber, NY State Education Department, State University of NY, Business Council and IBM International Foundation, scaling the innovative P-TECH 9-14 college and career ready school design. Approximately 12,000 students throughout New York State will be prepared to secure a high school diploma, a 2-year college degree and the workplace learning necessary for success in 21st century careers. Ms. Willner is coordinating the implementation and continuous improvement of the model in almost 40 partnerships across the state in a range of industries and STEM careers.
Ms. Willner had a distinguished career as Vice President, Global Community Initiatives for the IBM Corporation. As an executive in corporate citizenship, she managed all of IBM’s school partnerships and programs in 80 countries, with a focus on early literacy and STEM. She oversaw a range of global philanthropic and leadership development programs, including international corporate volunteer initiatives (Corporate Service Corps) and online mentoring programs for students, entrepreneurs and returning veterans. She also managed IBM’s humanitarian response to disasters. Ms. Willner joined IBM following her term as chief policy advisor to NYC Chancellor Joseph A Fernandez, to design and implement Reinventing Education, a unique philanthropic initiative in K-12 school reform. This $100 million global program grew to include 25 grant partnerships with school districts and states throughout the United States plus projects in twelve other countries, each focusing on a collaborative effort to develop new applications of technology to overcome common barriers to school improvement and increase student achievement.
In addition to the NYCLU, Robin was founding chair and continues to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Planned Parenthood of NYC Political Committee and she served for more than a decade on the Board of Planned Parenthood of NYC. Ms. Willner has also served on numerous national boards and councils to consider a range of education policy issues.
